About Us

“The Japanese word shokunin is defined by both Japanese and Japanese-English dictionaries as ‘craftsman’ or ‘artisan,’ but such a literal description does not fully express the deeper meaning.  The Japanese apprentice is taught that shokunin means not only having technical skills, but also implies an attitude and social consciousness. … The shokunin has a social obligation to work his/her best for the general welfare of the people.  This obligation is both spiritual and material, in that no matter what it is, the shokunin’s responsibility is to fulfill the requirement.” – Tasio Odate

Shokunin Collective is revolutionizing work wear with craftsmanship and artistry for the socially conscious chef and maker.

While working as an Executive Chef in the Seattle area, Kyle Yasui imagined a better-fitting chef coat, one that combined the comfort and tech of athletic wear with style and flair that was missing in the current chef coat industry. He wanted to have something that allowed chefs to move comfortably while keeping cool in hot conditions.  Kyle worked with his brother-in-law, Jason, to create a chef coat that ticked off all of the items on his checklist: wrinkle-resistant, water-resistant, stain-resistant, with 4-way stretch side panels, 2-way stretch material, and shoulder flex panels to provide more comfort. Extra pockets, custom zippers, and a scalloped hem elevate the standards of innovation for fit and finish in a chef coat.

We believe that chef wear should be comfortable, stylish, and practical.  Our chef coat does all the work, so you can focus on your craft.
